Anyone with any info about Nurse Practitoner Fisrt Assist programs........

I am not aware of any of those programs but there are RNFA programs available. These are Registered Nurse First Assist Programs. I attended one in Michigan but they are offered in quite a few states. You can check the internet to find one near you.

Has an RNFA program you can do online. It is through British Columbia. Check it out.

If you are going for certification in the US, the program in British Columbia won't count. How do you demonstrate suturing techniques with an on-line program? There are programs that are only a week or two but you still need to get the required hours in under the direct supervision of a surgeon.

Re: suturing techniques on line.

Obviously you can't. The program through BCIT, allows you to complete your theory but all your practicuum and prep are done in a hospital and lab. YOu are then mentored with a surgeon and must complete the required hours for your certification.

A good friend of mine is doing this, very well too.

Hope this information clarifies your question Suzannne4.

Yes, I understand that BUT the last time that I saw the actual requirements, they stated that it had to be in an approved program and there were no Canadian one's listed that would count for US registration. Most programs for theory are only one to several weeks long, to do it on line just doesn't make much sense. I have already completed an approved program in Michigan so it doesn't concern me. I would just hate to see someone complete that program if it is not accepted for US registration and that was the reason that they were doing it.

Just wondering if anyone has found any information about first assist NPs. I'm particularly interested in orthopedic surgery, particulary joint replacements. Please let me know if anyone has resources.

You have to complete the requirements for a RNFA to get reimbursed.

Please look at AORN website to see the requirements.
