New Grad in the Operating Room

Specialties Operating Room

Published

Hey everyone,

I'm a new grad starting in the operating room and I'm wondering if you have any advice for me.

Currently I'm in a speciality that I don't love but don't know how to tell my manager in order to be placed somewhere else at the end of my orientation (final placement in a service line occurs after our orientation)... I requested this specialty in my interview so I don't know how to say I'm not clicking with it... without sounding ungrateful or greedy.

Help?

I think if you ask to talk to the manager about your request, and get said meeting, I'd start with what I think your message is at the end your post... that you appreciate the opportunity to work a service you requested, and you're grateful to be given that chance, but that it's not clicking...

Be honest with yourself and with them... Maybe they can move you to another area, but be ready for their feedback on how you could do better, especially if that feedback might not be fun to hear. You may yet discover the desire to stay in that service.

Good luck.
