What incentives do you have in your operating rooms to improve morale??????

Clinical ladder for the RNs. Earn points with years of service, level of education, CEUs, different roles performed, accredidations, public service, and more. 4 levels. Easy to obtain with a little effort and 30 minutes of a day per year to fill out the paperwork. Level one = no bonus, Level 2, 3, and 4 bonus awarded increases ans id paid in one lump sum combied with one paycheck. UNcle Sammy takes a big chunk.

That is the only "bonus" offered. Earned vacation days increase with years of service and what the hospital calls "merit increases" which sorta covers the cost of inflation.

Oh yea - my unit is quite lucky in the fact that for the most part, we all get along, and actually like each other. But, like anywhere else, and like with siblings, we have our quibbles.

I did work on a unit that got along it was wonderful after 20 years most of us still keep in contact.....I guess the OR is just a different type of people....I have been their for almost 20 years....we do all pitch in when some has a personal problem that is overwhelming but the day to day happenings I just see how their are very few who really help....As far as hospital incentives their are very few we also have a clinical ladder but we are not compensated for a degree we can not buy back sick time and seniority only plays a part when picking vacation......I guess I am just venting ..:chuckle:crying2:

Interesting question, never thought about it a lot. I guess where we work if we're feeling down and the stress is getting to us we organize a trip away for the weekend with families and really have a blow out. Its great because things I may feel no one else has noticed I usually find out has bothered someone else too, also something that has really bothered me is put in perspective by my fellow workers and it dosent seem too bad. After these weekends we feel refreshed and ready to go for a few more months.

I"m relatively new to the OR. A few of the nurses I met that already worked there invited me to go on a weekend trip Whitewater rafting. This definately builds morale and team work. Plus, you have a good time doing it. Our morale as a whole in the OR is pretty low, but in our little group we are doing pretty well. I look foreward to next years trip...we are going to put up sign up sheets for everyone.

Of course, no incentives from management or administration. So, we made our own.
