San Jacinto ADN Spring 2014

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Wanted to start a blog on anyone trying for the Spring 2014 ADN program at San Jacinto. Going to take my first HESI A2 test on Aug. 28 and I am a little nervous. Hope I do well. I am still trying to get everything together so that I can turn in but all these injections and titters are driving me crazy. Has anyone else taken the HESI yet? any pointer you can give me?

Niaesha2010, when you look at the announcements for each class, click on the class # (ex. 1215), on the right will be the tabs and you'll find course content, click it then you'll see the documents for each class, from there print what was said to bring for the first day. It was listed in each announcement. hope that helps.

Sandra07, you'll have to contact your admin advisor (i can't list names apparently) for the correct CRN#. I had problems getting in to. I'm in same class 1414.103. Also, since were going to be walking in some "stuff" during clinicals, I'm going for all black shoes. I like all white personally but don't want to clean them all the time, but that's just me. I picked up a pair of Sketchers Go Walk 2. They feel like your standing on pillows! They make alot of colors but more in womans than mens. I found them at DSW. My admin said someone was"grilled" by an instructor for having all white Nikes w/ a grey swoosh!

Thank You Holdthecroutons!! I found it and I hope I don't get grilled because I have those same shoes.

And also don't forget to read ch 1,2,3,11 for monday's health assessment lecture. (they asked us to do that in the announcement)

Does anyone know how much the Health assessment book is ?

You cannot wear black for clinic per student handbook last time I checked. I graduate in May, therefore rules may have changed. Please make sure you go by the student handbook, it is the nursing school bible.

Enjoy and have a wonderful year. Two years will fly by.

You are so right. I just read it again. Black is fine for school. White shoes are the only clinical approved shoes.

Hey Student of Healing, would you recommend us getting a fluids and electrolytes study guide? What are some 1st year tips you can share w/ us? Thanks!

You will learn more about fluid and electrolytes in medsurg during orientation to the course.

I would definitely recommend getting a study guide for your personal benefit if you feel it will help you. I personally just Google and I LOVE GrnTea's explanation of F&E here on allnurses - she is amazing!

Have a good handle on hypotonic/hypertonic/isotonic and how it relates to various IV fluids ... HOW those fluids affect the status of fluid in the body ... HOW those IV fluids affect which compartments give and take fluids.

As far as the electrolytes ... they will become more relatable as you progress and build on your pharmacology and pathophysiology knowledge.

My number one tip from me to y'all is ... UNDERSTAND don't memorize. Understand the rationales, dig a little deeper and understand and relate nursing interventions to your A&P knowledge. Understand the why.

Also, never ever be afraid or Intimidated. All the professors want you to succeed. It's up to you to seek the help - don't fall into the trap of believing you will be babied along the way. You WILL have support somewhere ... a friend ... a trusted professor. The retention specialist is a very nice and trustworthy part of the program. Talk to her when you feel the need.

But it's up to YOU to seek the help.

There is SO much to say. Haha

Study tips ....it comes down to you and how you learn but honestly make your life easy and do a little studying everyday instead of 12 hours on one day.

And there's much more I can add later.

Sorry everything was scatter brained (Already stomped with work/in a rush) - hope it helped some.

Feel free to PM me.

Thanks so much!!

Hi everyone!!!! :),

My name is Naomi, and I'm planning to apply for the ADN Program in Spring 2015. For the immunizations, do we have to get the vaccinations done along with the titer? Or can we just have titers drawn by themselves? (on the application form, it says if you have a titer, you also have to present documentation of disease** does that mean like your old immunization records?) I'm sorry, but this has been driving me crazy, and any help would be greatly appreciated. lol

Hi StudentOfHealing can you talk to me abut the program, intructors, clinicals, how you like the program, I'm torn in deciding to go to San JAC OR Alvin CC, I have been accepted to both, help
