Rutgers Newark ABSN - Spring 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello All!

I just received an acceptance letter for this program today, so I thought I would come on here and see if anyone wanted to connect. I'm really excited and can't wait for January :)

Hi!

I'm so sorry. I just saw your reply. For interpersonal communications, I took it online via Atlantic Cape Community College, and I didn't have to take any prereqs (they might've required college English, but I don't remember, because whatever it was was covered in my bachelor's). The only other things I had to take a prereq for were A&P 2 (I needed A&P 1) and chemistry (you don't have to take the organic biochem class; you can take general chemistry 2). I took chem 1 and chem 2 in college, but my chem 2 was too old for Rutgers, so I retook it.

*If you are looking to do prereqs at HCCC, you need A&P 2 before you can take microbiology. I actually ended up going to another school to take A&P 2, because I wanted to do them at the same time.

If you are going to do any classes online, the cheapest I found for out of county students were Salem (I did nutrition), Camden (I did lifespan psych), and Atlantic (I did communication). Passaic is also not far behind those (I know their nutrition class counts, but it is 4 credits, so it is a little more expensive than the one via Salem).

I took my classes as follows:

Fall:

A&P 1

Statistics

Lifespan psych (6-week condensed class Nov-Dec)

Spring:

A&P 2

Microbiology

Nutrition

Chem 2

Summer 1:

Interpersonal communication

Thank you very much for the info. Very helpful.

This is SO helpful - thank you! I agree with DigitalBobby...it seems like Rutgers has many additional prerequisites compared to other ASBN programs!

Can I ask -- what was the course you took online at Atlantic Cape Community College to fulfill the prereq for Interpersonal Communications? Thank you!

I didn't take anything, so they must've just based it off my college transcript.

I know the classes seem like a lot, but it wasn't that bad, doing a bunch online (and I did two hybrid sciences). To me, it was worth it to go to a state school and save a lot of money in the long run. Just take things one step at a time so you don't get overwhelmed!

*I was working full time the whole time I did the prereqs.

Thanks for the encouragement Mazzy. I was just at the open house for Rutgers Newark and got a very good impression of the program. I guess at first I was just very anxious to get all of the prereqs done as soon as possible, but now that I am spreading it out more it is definitely more reasonable.

Thanks

I'm glad you liked the info session! It is frustrating to take your time, because once you want to make the change, you want it RIGHT NOW, but unless you are like 60, you will have a LONG career ahead of you in nursing. So it doesn't matter if you get started in one year or two, really. Best of luck to you!!!

Hi everyone!

I was recently accepted to the Rutgers' absn program but i'll be attending the one in New Brunswick. However, i was told that if they don't receive enough applications for New Brunswick, i would have to take the train to Newark for their lectures a couple times a week. I was wondering, do you guys know anymore information regarding details about the program? I was hoping there would be an online forum that we could all meet on.

Thanks! Erin

hi Erin

I had originally applied for the program in New Brunswick as well but I recieved an email last week saying they were no longer running the program there and I would have to move my seat to Newark. There is a facebook group most of us are in called Ruters Nursing - Newark - ABSN Spring/January 2015 Start

Hi all! My name is Vivian and I just got my acceptance to rutgers for the spring. I'm really excited to start the program and to meet my fellow nursing students! I requested to join the facebook group as well. Looking forward to connecting with you all :)

Hey, Do you know if they will continue the NB program in the fall? Or is this just a temporary thing?

Hey Bobby,

I'm really not sure. It might depend on number of applicants. If it helps, we were told a lot of the clinicals are more in central jersey because that's where a lot of instructors live.
