Rn to Bsn online, Good idea?

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello, I was wondering if any of you have any information about these kind of programs and if its a good idea to get your bsn online like in terms of finding a job, learning online( learning on your own kind of thing)

thank you!

In my area there are few RN-BSN programs and the big difference is that the completely on-line programs require at least one year of work experience. Luckily, we have a 3 semester RN-BSN program that meets one evening a week on campus, and the rest of the work is online. Hybrid they call it.

do the employers care if you have the BSN from online or in school? Do they have a preference for online BSN or in school BSN ?

It depends. Some old-fashoned employers might toss the employment application into file number 13 (a.k.a. the recycle bin) if the candidate attended a school with a huge online presence such as Kaplan U, etc.

On the other hand, an increasing number of managers, recruiters and educators have earned their degrees online. My former chief nursing officer had an online MSN degree from Walden U, and a former director of a school I once attended had an online MSN degree from U of Phoenix. I'd assume that people with online degrees are less likely to care if applicants attended online programs.
