Wondering if anyone applied to the LVN to RN bridge program at PCC to start Summer 2017?

Hoping to to hear something soon I believe it said 10 weeks to hear a decision the dead line was Feb 1st, and I submitted mine mid January.

Crossing my fingers!!!

Hey, I applied the week before the deadline. Received an email yesterday saying I was accepted into their program 😁😁. Have you heard back yet?

Congrats!!!

I also applied 2 weeks before deadline and was accepted as well!!! Cant believe we have orientation next week already!!!

I'm so excited!!!!

Congrats Valpal!

I can't believe it either, I'm still in shock! Looking forward to meeting you at the orientation!

Baby1127,

Looking forward to meeting you to next week.

I know i'm still in shock!!! Finally all this hard work to even get to this point is already an accomplishment, and ready for this next step.

Are you planning on working during the program?

I'm going to try to work 2 days a week at my current job.

I'm going to post this here for all to read:

I started the Career Ladder in summer 2016. I was only an LVN for 1 year, so it wasn't hard going back to school (actually I was always in school taking1 class here and there anyways).

To view the schedules, just check the PCC website for the schedule of classes. It'll explain itself. If you have a specific question go ahead and ask, but you cannot pick your instructors (I guess you could in the past).

We may use the same or different hospitals for each semester, depending on the specialty/unit each hospital has. I went to BHC Alhambra for psych, San Dimas for 3rd, and Methodist for 4th. Other hospitals we use include: Huntington, LA County, Keck USC, Verdugo Hills, Glendale Adventist, San Gabriel. There's more but those are the ones I know. If they have a psych ward, we use those for psych clinicals too. In 3rd we didn't stay the whole 12 hours, but we do in 4th. The good thing is we don't go to the hospital the night before to gather patient data and work on our care plans the night before. These are usually due a week or so after clinical. And there is only 1 clinical day per week so make the most out of it! I hate clinical in 3rd but I love it in 4th.

3rd semester is HARD! Psych was pretty easy, but med-surg is a struggle and a lot of people will fail, including the LVNs. They put 3-4 LVNs in each group of generic ADN students. You are not a separate cohort and the school will assume you know how everything operates despite the facts that you didn't attend the first 2 semester. My group was kind of dysfunctional and we didn't really click at all. However, most groups get along. We (LVNs) always felt out of place. Also, they will make you purchase books and online access which you will never use! I paid for 12 months worth of DocuCare and have used it 1! And the cost of ATI went up to almost $600/semester so be ready to be broke.

Also, 3rd is unorganized and you are pretty much self-studying. Theory is only 3 hours a week. And you have a 3 hour lab and a 1 hour seminar. The seminar is just everyone finding a research article to share, and each week a different student does a teaching presentation. Easy points there. I was lucky and had class Mon, Tues, Weds. Some groups have clinical on Saturday or Sunday. You have one 5-point essay, and your grade is based on 5 exams so no room for extra points to bring your grade up if you are a poor test taker, sorry.

Working is doable, but not more than 1 day a week. There is too much to learn over a short period. FYI, we started with 60 students in 3rd and ended up with 43 in 4th. If you're struggling in class, you need to stop working because if you fail your ATI exams (there's 2), you need to remediate and retake the test, which takes up your time.

Last thing, there is an ATI Psych and ATI Pharmacology exam near the end of the semester and you study for that on your own time. They will not lecture that to you! And dosage calculation will be given the first week of school and somewhere near the end (the second one is for advancing to 4th, so there's no dosage exam in 4th).

Thank you for your insight and program info!! Wow I'm scarred and excited at the same time...LOL

I forgot to add, the N210 transition course was almost a waste of time. It was mostly leadership (which you study in detail in 4th lol). I think they will try to add ATI or something extra to it this year because we all complained it didn't prepare us for the program. I took a transition course at another college (they required the transition course as a pre-requisite) and it reviewed ADPIE nursing process and full head to toe assessment to be prepared for their RN program.

Good luck!!

P.s. you can borrow clinical scrubs from the school so you don't have to pay $100+ for yours. Also, plain white scrubs also work. The patch costs $4.

Thank you, your the best!! I'm so grateful for all this info my anxiety has been in overdrive just nerves. I worked so hard to even get to this point so I want to give all my 250% to the program!!

I was a CNA for years, and now have been working as an LVN for 5 years. I work at a local Hospital doing so much of what my RN colleagues do yet not the title. Finally I'm ready to start this journey!

I have my orientation tomorrow.. :)

Thank You!!

Thank you so much for the wealth of information your provided! I feel so much more at ease and prepared to study before classes start. Words can't even begin to express my gratitude!

Hey

Do you happen to have the purchase code for ATI? I looked through the packet they gave but don't see anything besides saying to purchase ATI for the semester. I just contacted ATI and they said we need the payment code from the school.

The school will email you the class code. It jumped up to $572/per semester now. Yes, on top of everything else you have to buy!!
