Mid American Nazarene in Kansas Questions...???

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I would like to apply to Mid America Nazarene in the fall but I am so confused on the process. I was told that you don't have to have your pre reqs completed to apply to the program. There is no entrance exam either. I am currently an LPN looking to get my BSN in as little time as possible. I work full time and I am a single mom. My question is if you were a student here what was your experience getting in and what criteria are they looking at to accept students if your pre reqs dont have to be complete. How many did they accept and what GPA was average for getting in? I have a few more classes to go! I just want to get in!!!!!

Hi MissKC02! I saw the message you sent me, but I couldn't reply because I'm too new of a member. I believe it depends on which program you are wanting to apply to. I went to their Web site to apply, and then went through nursingcas.org to enter all of my information and main nursing school application. I applied to the accelerated BSN program, with the January start date. I haven't gotten my acceptance/denial letter yet, and am waiting to hear back, probably the beginning of July. I know I didn't have to have all of my pre-reqs completed to apply, but there were some in particular I believe I had to have. Have you looked at their Web site yet? They have the requirements for the Accelerated program as:

You are eligible if you:

  • have a BS or BA degree in another field from a regionally-accredited college or university, OR
  • are an LPN or MICT with an additional 64 hours of college credit from a regionally-accredited college or university, OR
  • are HIGHLY motivated with at least 90 hours of credit from a regionally-accredited college or university.
  • have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.80 on a 0-4.0 scale OR
  • have a program prerequisite GPA of at least 3.00 on a 0-4.00 scale.

The classes listed are:

[h=3]Program Prerequisites:[/h]

  • 3 hrs. Human Growth and Development/Child Development
  • 3 hrs. Intermediate Algebra, or higher level algebra course (or proficiency)
  • 3 hrs. English Comp I (or proficiency)
  • 3 hrs. Public Speaking
  • 8 hrs. Anatomy and Physiology (must be no more than 5 years old; will consider 5- and 6-hour courses)
  • 3 hrs. Human Nutrition – must be a science-based course (e.g. a biology or general science course. Other nutrition courses [health, PE] may/may not be accepted based on the course description and/or syllabus)
  • 3 hrs. Probability and Statistics – or a basic statistics course
  • 3 hrs. Ethics – other philosophy courses may also be accepted
  • 8 hrs. Other appropriate science courses that relate to nursing: microbiology, chemistry, genetics, etc.

English Language Requirements

  • All applicants to the MNU nursing major whose native language is not English must demonstrate an established level of English language proficiency through the TOEFL iBT exam.TOEFL (iBT) scores are required as follows:
  • Overall score of 80 (minimum)
  • All sub-scores (Writing, Speaking, Reading, Listening) of 20 (minimum).

[h=3]Please note:[/h]

  • Students with a previous bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university are considered to have met additional MNU general core requirements. Students without a previous bachelor's degree may also need to complete other courses before starting the accelerated BSN program.
  • All of these course do not have to completed before program application, however they must be completed prior to starting the program.
  • No grade lower than a C is acceptable in any of the prerequisite courses, and students with higher grades in the sciences will be better positioned for acceptance.
  • Persons without a previous bachelor degree need to have an additional 3 credits of fine arts and 3 credits of social responsibility in addition to the above prerequisites.

Hope this helps!!

I did look at the website and I am still a little confused. I just want to get on the right track. I need to figure out exactly which ones need to be completed before you apply. Thats the part I don't understand.

Hmmm.... I'm not actually sure if there is a requirement on that? I applied and I'm currently taking Physiology, and I still have to take Nutrition and Ethics this fall. I would recommend calling the school and seeing if an advisor can help answer that. I guess I should have thought about that when I applied- I just winged it!! ;)

I wanted to apply but I didn't. I was so discouraged about the pre req stuff... I am currently still taking pre reqs and I will try next go around. Did you get in? What was your gpa?
