Hunter College Accelerated Program

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi. I just heard about Hunter College's (new) Accelerated BS Nursing program for 2nd degree students. Does anyone have any info on how hard this program is to get into...? Is it a good program?

I was full time when I was applying because CUNY had other requirements that needed to be met (Gen ed classes). Even when you already have a BS in something else, you will want to take a look into that just to make sure you have those classes. But if you do, I believe you can go part time while you are applying. I would speak with Ms. Mendoza as she is the pre-nursing advisor and she helped me while I was applying. As about getti g accepted, the program was so new and we also started in the summer that we didn't find out our acceptance until a week before the program started. I believe now the accelerated program starts

in the fall with the generic students and they should know acceptance in late May, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

I just heard about this program yesterday! I applied to NYU's accelerated nursing program, and I feel a little more confident in that program because they accept so many more students, and they take into account a lot more than just your GPA and your score on the test.

When applying, I saw that the application process requires you to apply as a transfer student through the CUNY website (which I have done), as well as submitting a nursing application CAS, and I am not sure where this application can be found?

Is anyone else aware of this? I emailed the officeof admissions, but after seeing all the trouble everyone else has been having with the faculty, I figured you guys might know better!

Thanks all, and good luck to everyone!

I think you have to be accepted into Hunter College first, and once you're accepted then you'll get info on how to apply to the nursing program...

Hi Nikki,

Unfortunately you have to be attending Hunter College to be able to apply to the program...

I am attending Hunter College right now (Spring 2011 semester) as a transfer student. I am taking their gen ed requirements which are a little weird. I am taking a women gender studies class, an "intensive writing class" which they require you to have 1-2 depending upon the number of credits you transferred in with and some more classes. So, I'm kind of in limbo here taking classes in hopes to get into the program in the fall.

The program is only offered to Hunter students. Good luck to everyone

dbaker - your info has been very helpful re: Hunter's Accelerated program. Have a few questions and would appreciate any info you could share.

1) What your schedule was like in terms of classes and clinicals. Did you have classes MWF then clinicals Tues, Thurs?

2) How were your clinical placements determined? Were you able to make requests?

3) Did you have to deal with Administration much once you were actually in the program and in which cases?

4) Was everyone who was in the program able to get into the classes as dictated in the program? (there are 3 classes tops per semester, with summer at 1-2, per the website)

5) How did you find the teachers?

6) How did you find the students? Were they competitive in a healthy way or aggressive and trying to "one-up" each other? Did you find them to be helpful at all? Did you make any close friends?

7) Anything you would have done differently and why?

8) Any recommendations re: logistics once you're in the program?

9) Is there a career services department? What did you think of it? Does the school help you find a job post NCLEX passing? How did you find a job?

Thanks again in advance!

hey I ve a question regarding the procedure for hunter college for BSN programe. While applying is it just enough that we sent our documents and money to CUNY. Or should we go for step by step application process to hunter college itself? Should we get our grades evaluated for getting the RN to BSN programe since I'm a registered nurse from Nepal itself and want my grades to be evaluated step by step by eve so that I can be eligible to take RN to BSN program.or should I be taking a upper class and lower clas general courses, is there any pre req to be in BSN as well.. since ill be transferring from another college of USA with my 12 credit,
