this is my final quarter in nursing school and in a couple of weeks i will be doing my preceptorship in the oncology unit at a local hospital. i am so excited about this opportunity especially since i would like to specialize in oncology and eventually become a hospice nurse. i want to be as knowledgeable as possible prior to my start date -- any tips on reading material or any tips just in general? thanks in advance!

congratulations blaav! i work as an aide at an oncology hospital and i'm 99% sure that's what i want to do when i finish my rn. i am excited for you. do you know which cancer population you will be dealing with? right now, i work with sarcoma patients. good luck to you.

Thanks for the encouragement. We will find out more this afternoon at school on the specifics of our preceptorship, but what I do know at this point is that I will be in an outpatient oncology clinic located in the hospital. I initially thought I would actually be on the oncology floor of the hospital, but I'm happy with this assignment. I will keep you posted. Tips on preparing for this assignment anyone? THANKS!
