How long did you wait to get Chemo certified?

Hi, Im new to Oncology and looking for advice. How long does it take to get Chemo certified? I heard 6 months or so? Thanks in advance.

I waited at little over year, after working on an Oncology floor, to become Chemo and Biotherapy certified.

I misunderstood. I got the Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider card prior to being hired in an outpatient oncology unit. I was working in day surgery and every now and then we would have a patient come in for chemo. We were not required to have the Chemo/Biotherapy card, but I wanted it to give me more opportunities. It did.

I got oncology certified (ONS) after about a year and a half.

The process of obtaining your Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certificate takes about a month, which is how long the course runs. I precepted on a BMT unit during my final semester of nursing school and accepted my first position on a medsurg/oncology/palliative care unit. My facility allowed me to obtain my Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certificate at 6 months. I am currently going through the process of being trained via my hospital protocol to administer chemotherapy and biotherapy.
