What would you do..?

If you were in my situation. Either go to a school that is in your hometown (so you can live at home) that is pretty prestigous (TU) but would be there for three years INSTEAD of the normal two years...(an additional year of clinicals)...also one of your close friends would be going through the program with you

OR

Move about 3.5 hrs away where you don't know anyone and go to another school (OU) and graduate in the two years?

Keep in mind I am only 19 (20 in a few days) ! I have to make this decision pretty soon...(TMR) lol and I decided to see if you guys have any input/suggestions!

Oh yea..money is not really a factor in this, if there is a WILL there is a WAY, although I would have to live in an off campus apartment if I go for the OU program--which I have never done in my life :uhoh3:

If you live in Tulsa, OU in Norman is not 3.5 hours away???

Isn't going to OU in Tulsa an option for you? That could be the best of both worlds. Do you have all your pre-reqs (Anatomy, Physiology, etc) out of the way?

Yea OKC isn't that far lol, but that's not where I would be going...they have new programs in Lawton/Duncan area that I was offered a slot..

My FIRST choice was in Tulsa but of course that filled up VERY quickly and yes I have completed everything.

If i tell them no but I want to wait on Tulsa right to see if anything opens up, they automatically give up my spot for the other place---so if Tulsa falls through i'm totally out the race for the other location. That's where I am torn--I am just trying to get some feedback on what others in my situation would do.

Should I really be so fixiated on that extra year?

I could see where that is a hard decision. Have you been accepted into the TU program as well? If so, that may be a better option since your friend will be going too. On the other hand, their are plenty of girls who you will meet at Ou as well and it will be quicker. When it comes right down to it, you just want to get your Rn! Right! Ok. I'll just flat out tell you what I would do. I would choose TU because they have a VERY nice campus and are here locally. You can get a job as a CNA or something locally too. You will have the support of your friend as well. Also, doesn't TU have some kind of elaborate clinical out of the country??? Hope this helps.

YES they do! Also, I have a close relative that recently graduated from TU's nursing program and LOVED it and was instantly hired in an cardio-ICU at St. Francis where she has told me she is way above (skills-wise) compared to other RN's who graduated at the same time as here from other schools...I decided to tell them no (OU) and just see how things go and yes I was accepted into TU's program...

I think TU might just be a better fit regardless of the time period, and having a degree from there has some "weight" in the Tulsa area when applying for jobs.
