Hello all! I am new to this site, as well as nursing school, and I am going to attend Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, which begins August 21st. I have to admit that I am very excited, yet terribly SCARED! -I'm hoping these feelings are normal???? Furthermore, if anyone has any helpful information and insight about NOC's program, I would really appreciate the insight. Thank you! :)

WELCOME!!!

Okay, I'm not a native Okie, so....where in the world is Tonkowa???? :) Goodluck with it, I'm sure you'll do fine!

Welcome RN2Beee to the Oklahoma nursing forum and to allnurses.com. We are very glad to have you!! :welcome:

Tonkawa is right off I-35 heading north towards the Kansas border. It is south of Blackwell, but north of Enid. Because it's off I-35, it's basically central Oklahoma. I had a friend who lived there MANY, MANY years ago and he attended the University of Tulsa. He called Tonkawa "Tank-away", because it was a tank of gas to go anywhere fun! ;) I miss that guy and even though he's married, and living in Hawaii (what a change, huh?) I hope that he's having a great life.

Back to you RN2Beee, yes, your feelings are all normal. To be excited and terribly scared are some of the hallmarks of first year students. Once you get in and start studying, you'll make your niche in NS school and have many friends.

We all wish you the very best of luck. Remember, we are here for you. We support each other through the trials and tribulations of NS, and we'll happily do the same for you.

Once again, WELCOME!!!!:groupwelcome:

Welcome!

I live in OKC and am starting the nursing program at UCO (Edmond) on the 21st as well. I think your feelings are very normal. I'm excited and scared as well! It's because we have no clue what to expect I think. My schoo has us paired up with a senior nursing buddy so I have been emailing her to ask questions and what to expect, I think that is really neat and has relieved some of my anxiety.

Good luck! What classes are you taking?? I'll be doing Med/Surg, Psych/Mental Health, Concepts, Physical Assessment. We will have 12 hours of clinical at first and then move up to 24 hours a week.
