STNA salaries???

U.S.A. Ohio

I am looking to become an STNA. The program I'm looking to take is offered by and Nursing home. I could be (no contract being signed) hired on directly after I finish the two week course & then of course pass the state test. They are offereing $8.90\hour as a new employee, does this sound about right? I was thinking that being certified would give me at least $9.50.

Does anyone know if that is a resonable starting price?

Do hospitals pay more for their STNA's?

Thank you for your help!!

Hi all! Thanks for the post and comments. I just finished STNA training and am looking for a job. Just to put them out there, Madison Adult offers an excellent program for $905 (including tuition, books, physical, CPR, First Aid, Two Step Mantoux Skin Test (for tb) a free resume done by their staff, and the state test fee). It's a full time program lasting 2 1/2 weeks, I think and then there's the state test. The teacher was great (RN) and I loved the class. Now for the job....does any one know the rate for STNA's in Ashland nursing homes? I am just jumping into the medical field and have no idea about the minimums for any positions. I apologize if someone has already answered my question and I missed it.

Thanks

I started at 11.40 an hour last year at a skilled nursing home. I recently started working at a hospital starting at 14.60 and depending on the shift add an extra dollar and another dollar fifty an hour for weekends. I don't know if that is typical though. I might have just been lucky and Im working in Michigan so it might be a little different.
