RN or BSN? Kent Students?

U.S.A. Ohio

Hello,

I just joined this site today.. but I am a nursing student in my freshman year at Kent State- the Stark campus. I am currently going for the BSN, but want to switch to the ADN program now. The BSN just sounds incredibly discouraging.

I know hospitals in NEO are getting 'pickier' with RN's and most of the new job posts say 'BSN preferred' but, these are not required. I just want to get out of school, to get done quicker. Then eventually do the bridge RN to BSN program that Kent offers.

Also, I have talked to many people that are of junior or sophomore status by now and have not been accepted to the BSN program. In my opinion, it is not worth wasting all the time and money...And from what people have told me, there isn't much of a pay gap.

I took Biological Structure & Function and obtained a B, and then I'm in Microbiology right now and am not doing so well... So I'm going to have to retake it in the fall, and the better grade outweighs the bad. The ADN is not offered at the Stark campus, so I would have to transfer to the Kent Tusc campus to get it. :]

RN or BSN?

BSN = bachelor of science in nursing

ADN = associate degree in nursing

RN = registered nurse (which means you have passed the NCLEX and to take the NCLEX you have to have graduated from ADN or BSN program)

I think you should stick with the BSN program. Get the college experience, do well in your prerequisite courses, get a job in a hospital environment to get your feet wet (or at least volunteer), and get to know people in the department. Enjoy the college experience.
