question for veteran Tri-C nursing students

U.S.A. Ohio

I'll be starting my first semester Fall 2011 and I was planning on doing Sat/Sun clnicals. I am now revisiting the idea of doing weekday evening clinicals if I can make it work with my work schedule. My question is, how much earlier than the scheduled stat time are we required to report to clinicals? I'm assuming we will do care plans before each shift? Sign up for clinicals is in the morning, so I need to make up my mind!!

Thanks for the feedback

Depending on when your clinical site does pre-assignment (when your clinical instructor assigns you to your patients) usually 30 minutes before the start time listed on the schedule. Some sites do pre-assignment the day before, but I wasn't aware of any people in my 1450 class that did it the day before. Many of these floors have a high turnover so if you did pre-assignment the day before your patients were likely to be gone before tomorrow. Care plans are done at home not at the clinical site. Basically you record all your patient data at the clinical site. Then write your care plan at home for your patient and turn it in to your clinical instructor the next clinical.

Thanks Scott. That's what I thought but needed to double check. I guess I better stick with Sat/Sun clinical, I don't think I'll be able to make the timing work out. :)

Depends.... My OB rotation it was 6:15 for a 7am clinical...

Hope that helps...

p.s Good Luck and always double check your documents r/t TRI-C mysteriously losing ur immunizations and calling you the night before clinicals barring you from said clinicals...

Sigh.... thank goodness for graduation...

Thanks Ohiostudent 11! I've already had a taste of the missing document blues! I got an email 4 days before registration saying they were missing all of the same docs that I turned in at orientation and that I wouldn't be able to register, then the next day got another that said to ignore the first!! I just happened to check my email on Sunday night and registration was 9am Monday! I've decided to keep a complete file from this point forward of everything I submit! :yeah:

Keep the originals and turn or fax in only copies, and 2300 is the only semester where things get jacked up schedule wise. Since OB, Psych, and Peds rotations are harder to find they can be at anytime.

I am pretty sure I am starting in Spring 2012 and I was wondering what the procedure is in terms of supplies. Can anyone tell me what is required when you start the Generic Track RN program at Tri-C? Is there a kit we are required to purchase, or can we buy our own scrubs, stethoscopes and such?

Thank you

Very good question. I was wondering the same thing.

If someone could post a list of things they require you to have when you start the program, I'd be forever grateful!

You can buy whatever stethoscope you want. They don't require any particular brand or model. There is a specific "uniform" that they require. You buy the uniform from Affordable Uniforms. Basically it's All white Landau scrubs, and there is a patch that gets sewn on the left sleeve that you purchase from the Tri-C bookstore. There is also a "Nursing Tote" that you purchase through the bookstore that has various supplies in it. Such as a Foley kit, dressing change kit, ect. Other than the stethoscope (if you want to mess around with it) there really isn't any sense in buying any of this stuff at this point. Once you have access to the group site on tri-c space. There is a flier that lists the uniform options that also gives you 10% off at affordable uniforms. There isn't much purpose in having the nursing tote before starting the program, and the books are likely to change considering they are constantly coming out with new editions.

Thanks so much for the info. I guess I will just wait till I start. It makes sense that the books might change till then

hey what times are the classes and clinicals? I work full time also and need evening and weekend classes/clinicals......thanks

You can check the current Spring 2011 Master Course list to get a good idea when evening classes start. Usually no earlier than 3:30pm though. Most classes start later than that though. Like I said earlier though with 2300 the scheduling gets jacked up.
