Kent accel BSN Fall 2011

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

Anyone else applied to Kent accel BSN for fall 2011? Applications are under review and, even though I think I'm a long shot, I'm anxiously awaiting a decision (and hopefully an invitation to write an essay for them!)

I am getting ready to be in Kent State's nursing program as well. Out of curiosity, what influenced you to try and get into the accelerated program?

I graduated from undergrad in 2008 and really had no idea what I wanted to do. Had some odd jobs, but finally ended up working as a medical assistant in a primary care office. I love working with patients, and it's something I've decided I want to do as a career. Also, my mom is a nurse, so I feel that it's a field that I understand reasonably well and feel comfortable jumping right into with the accelerated program. I have my fingers tightly crossed that I will get in. I am so excited about all the information we will learn, and especially clinicals!

What made you apply to the accelerated program?

Be sure to let us know how the acclerated program goes; if you like it then maybe I will try to get into it too. Is it true that they only let five people a year go into that?

hi! i applied for accel F11 @ kent and am anxiously waiting to write the essay portion. I hope you got the invite too. I've been scoping out the web trying to see what people write on as I wish I knew what the topic is, but won't know until they post it. Let me know how you do and maybe we'll see each other in the fall! good luck!

The essay topic just came up, and I'm pleased to see that it is a "what would you do" type case study. Good luck with your essay and I hope we both get good news July 5th!

hey there als224-

I'm glad the essay topic was situational too; the a&p class I took always had these for bonus questions. I think I did good on that part, but pretty sure my lack of patient experience got me. I didn't get in for F11 : (

I hope you got good news though. Did you make it?

I was also declined. I was actually a little surprised as I had thought I nailed the essay. Fortunately, I found out last week I was accepted to Pace University in NYC, and will be starting there in the fall. Did you apply to and/or get accepted anywhere else?

I got accepted to the University of Memphis as I'm currently living in TN but have decided that I will be moving back to Ohio (that's where I'm from). So, I figured that I got in here pretty readily and didn't think it would be a problem there. I had applied for Summer cohort at Kent but at the time of my application I was finishing up my a&p II so that took me out of the running.

I'm very surprised this time applying; I definitely felt good about it. When I talked to my Kent advisor June he said only 120 had applied so far and they were accepting 40 for fall and normally a bunch fall off from just not having all the req's. So, I'm not sure. I'm going to move back anyway and ask my boyfriend's mom for help as she's been a nurse for a while up there so hopefully get some more "patient experience." Good luck to you in NYC!
