I am a new OHN and would LOVE to have the list of resources that Sharon has so graciously offered! I admit I always look for recent posts on AN under OHN, but there are rarely any there.

This is to everyone!

Just to let you know, I posted the original post in 2001. I was in OH Nursing for five years, but I had resign my previous position due to personal reasons. Now, I am a Dialysis Nurse in a Peritoneal Dialysis outpatient clinic and have been there for two years. I really enjoyed OH Nursing and I wish you all the best.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas to everyone!

I've been an OHN for almost 3 yrs. I work for a local hospital, but I am contracted to a fiberglass manufacturing facility. The job is great. I enjoy helping the employees. I worked on an Oncology floor at a different hospital before becoming a OHN. I got tired of the nonstop/no lunch break/no bathroom break/fast pace and the terminally ill pts at the hospital. I am in my last semester of a RN program. This is probably the best job I have ever had.

Merry Christmas LPMLPN! I am so glad to see other OHNs posting on this board. I think I have the best job as well. I cannot imagine going back to the hospital. I am sure there a good ones out there with decent orientaions and reasonable patient loads, but they are not in my area. I really enjoy the population as well. Congrats on finishing your RN!

Piggy Bank Re: How many OHN's are on these board?
Greetings, all you OHNs!

I've been an OHN for a year, and it is a dramatic change (for the better) from hospital nursing. I'm an employee of a national occ health company, who staffs clinics for client firms.

The client where I work is in high-tech manufacturing. It has >1400 employees in one site, with new hires every week. Thank goodness I share the 24x7 load with three experienced nurses, although I am solo on my shift.

Reading the postings from nurses in other settings makes me appreciate this type of position. One downside is that some of my clinical skills (anything invasive, drips, complex wound care, etc.) have atrophied from non-use. But my prior experience in business and technology has finally become useful in nursing. I'm happy to be here, and best wishes for the rest of you.

I, too, left a position in oncology to become an OHN. I miss the patients, family and clinical setting but not the stress and absolutely LOVE my job. And during this holiday season, I am so grateful to not have to worry about working Christmas and affecting my kids. I work for an auto-parts manufacturer and we staff two clinics, soon to be three, with a nurse 24 hrs except on weekends and holidays. And the plant shuts down from Christmas Eve until the day after New Years. :icon_biggrin:

Sorry, I have not been checking as often as I should but I do check it from time to time. Your question did not appear on my email so I either do not have it set up right or . . .
