So, I work nights L&D and teach childbirth classes, as well. I also have a couple of friends who are pregnant currently and I have no idea where they are getting some of their information! I started a blog a few days ago and would appreciate topic suggestions, etc..

I think I'd be careful about what could be construed in a court of law as giving medical advice to strangers online.

Let me add, I think it's a great idea that could do some real good. It looks well put together, and I see that you're certified so I'm sure you know what you're talking about too.

I just think it's potentially risky from a legal standpoint when an RN does something like this outside of their employment and without the backing of a hospital or medical direction.

I know what you mean about the potential risks. I'm going to keep posts generic enough and I have put the disclaimer on each page (if that helps...).

It just irks me that women are getting information about labor and delivery from television, birth story blogs or other questionable websites. I spend so much time in my classes trying to undo that bad information women have collected here in there. Thanks for your feedback.

Coping with labor

High risk pregnancies - what is/isn't high risk

Common breastfeeding issues

How to get Dad/support person involved and actually HELPING

I'm sure there are more that others will think of...these are just off the top of my head. I think this is a great idea as long as you keep liability issues in mind.

A family member just had a scarey delivery...info third-hand said the placenta was infected, caused it to separate and bleed at initial labor, put baby in severe distress and resulted in c-sec. and NICU on vent....would appreciate a blog that helped nurses to read/research about these events. My specialty is not OB/GYN, yet family wants answers from me. I'm good at answers in a reassuring way if I'm prepared. Could your blog address this tyoe of need?

My experience as a nurse and a family member/friend is to try to be there when family has chances to talk to the doctor or nurse. It's not your specialty, but you may have a better idea what questions to ask and how. You will likely understand more than those who aren't nurses, so you can explain again later in terms they understand. This is more likely to get you some legitimate answers that actually apply to this baby than researching something on the internet.
