Hello everyone! I am SO excited to share that I got offered a position on an L&D unit!! I have wanted to be an L&D nurse since I became an LVN years ago!! I am now an RN and going to be starting in a couple of weeks! I wanted to ask y'all if there are any resources or articles/websites, etc that helped you out or that you think would help me prepare to start learning how to become an L&D nurse?? I will be getting FHR monitoring, and NPR certifications once I can afford them.. THANK YOU!!

wondering that too! I start a new grad resident program soon and was hoping to find a good book or resource to help me brush up on important info. Good luck to you!

This doesn't really answer your question, but before you go paying for NRP or FHM, it is required for your position so your facility might pay for those. A lot of L&D units also require ACLS. AWHONN has a perinatal book that we use as the gold standard at my job, but that will also be expensive.

Congrats. Ill be following as I am starting in L&D too :)

Man, I am so happy for all of you, but jealous too!!! Where do you all live. I am in Northern Cali, graduated in 08, and can't get a job in acute care much less L&D, which is what I desperately want. I preceptored and did an externship in L&D. Any tips? Thanks!!!

Yes, my work does NRP and FHM classes as part of our orientation. AWHONN also a great resource my work uses too. I just finished my orientation and wow do I love it but it is very stressful. There is so much to learn.
