New Grad Resume Help for L&D

Hi all! So I'm a new member but long time lurker. I just got my bachelor's degree July 30 and am so stoked! I've been applying to all women and children related units within a 60 mile radius because I want Labor and Delivery so bad! Today I actually got a call that I have an interview so I'm totally freaking out with excitement and nerves and everything!

The reason I'm posting today is because I am looking for critique on my resume. I don't have my RN license yet, I'm waiting to get the email so I can schedule my nclex...

Any and all help is greatly appreciated! ;)

Congrats on graduation! My recommendation is to remove the clinical rotations and coursework stuff. The only thing about school work I would mention is if you did a preceptorship that is pertinent to the job for which you've applied.

Do you belong to any state or national nursing organizations?

If you're interested in maternal child health, you should check out joining AWHONN.

While you're looking for a job, start doing trainings in the areas that interest you.

Mother baby, OB inpatient, lactation counseling, EFM.

Local conferences regarding maternity or lactation counseling or midwifery topics.

Keep adding to your resume - demonstrate that you are actively interested in the field.

Congrats for finishing nursing school! Good luck on the interview & NCLEX!

I would leave the clinical rotations, but add which hospitals & how many clinical hours you did for each rotation. The recruiters I've spoken to like to see that. :)

I also suggest removing the coursework & your high school education.

For certs, try to obtain your NRP & ACLS. Shows your interest and that you're proactive.

See if you can get some experience with childbirth education- i bet there are local CBE providers who would be more than willing to "precept" you by letting you attend their classes and help out, maybe even teach a lesson or two. That would look great on your resume.

I have looked into AWHONN. I plan to join just procrastinating I reckon haha. I'm also in the process of getting more certs, I am just struggling to find locations that offer them near me.

Thank you! The hospitals and clinical hours are a good idea. Any suggestion on how to actually word and arrange that? And yes, I am in the process of getting more certs at the moment. ACLS is first on my list but I am having trouble finding a location near me.

Oh really? I'll have to look that up. I prefer classes in-person because I learn better and can't trust that I understand everything that way. But I'll take what I can get for sure! Thanks for the info ;)
