my daughters blood test proved positive for downs syndrome

I am so very scared my daughter went in for blood testing she is four months pregnant and tested positive for downs syndrome. The doctor called yesterday and gave her the news she wants her to go into hospital for a ultra sound to see if the dates are correct. Does this mean the baby has a very good posibility of being downs? Thank you for any help, I should say she is 25 years old.

I'm just a nursing student, no children, but...It seemed like in at least half of my friend's pregnancies, the tests came back positive, not one of them actually had a baby with down's. Not saying it is usually wrong, just everyone I have heard of coming back positive, it was wrong.

I wish they would stop that test, I too tested positive, I was 28 yrs. old. Today my daughter is16, on the high honor roll and just took her learners permit driving test. That test causes more worry than it is worth. My doctor told me at the time he had never had a DS baby in a woman under 30 when that test was positive. Telling her not to worry is useless, of course she will worry but I hope it is a false alarm as most of them are.

Thank goodness my CNM does not encourage that test. In fact you have to ask for it. I was prepared to decline it w/ my first but my MW never offered. Out of curiosity at about 32 weeks I asked her why it wasn't offered. She said it was unreliable and tended to scare moms more than anything. Very high false positive rates.

I had a cousin who had that test w/one of her pg. Came out likely for downs. It made her whole pg miserable (she opted not to have an amnio). The baby was fine.

Deplorable test in my opinion. Don't know why it is even used.
