Are the babies allowed to stay in mom's room even if she is not within eyeball shot of the baby, say for a shower? We have a strict policy that no baby is to be unattended for a minute...instant firing if that is found. I don't know if private rooms make a difference where you work, but it doesn't where we are. If there is not mom or dad (banded significant other if that is the case) then the baby is toted back to the nursery. Even grandparents aren't allowed to keep the baby with them...we had one grandma try to take off with Junior because she didn't like the baby's mom! :eek:

VERY good question. I tell parents UNLESS A BANDED person is in the room to watch the baby, we would like baby wheeled in the bassinet to the nursery/front desk for us to watch him/her. OR we will come and get the baby.

We stress BABIES must NEVER be out of sight of mom/banded s/o ever, ever!!!!!! They sign a statement to this effect that we partner in infant security, them and the staff.

They can leave the baby with someone they trust, but we depend on them to bring the baby back if no one they consider appropriate is in the room.

Our patients can leave the baby with whoever they trust We have NEVER had a problem with this. If the baby is in the nursery, however, the person who comes to get the baby out must have a band on for idfentification purposes.

Our babies must be with a Banded individual. We advise mom to close the main door to her room, scoot the crib up to the bathroom, and shower with the bathroom door open. She also has the option of dropping the babe off at the nursery, but we subtly try to advise agains this because our nursery is a level II and it gets pretty crazy. Most moms would rather keep their babes with them once they learn that the nursery is for "sick babies"

They are all in pvt rooms. Moms are taught to keep the door closed if she is napping or in the shower. They do not have to be with a banded individual while Mom is in the shower, but they must have a band to get them out of the NSY.

Does your floor not have alarms? Our babes have security tags on their legs so they couldn't get off the floor anyway.
