I need confidence....

Tomorrows my last day of orientation on LD. Im an experienced med surg nurse and I knew coming into a specialty it was going to be a loooong time before im comfortable. The thing is everyone on tje unit says ill do fine and people are always there to help you out. Im sooo fricken nervous to be on my own. The nurses keep tellibg me that im actually a really good new grad compared to other new grads they've had. That I pick up things really fast.

I just wish I had the confidence in my self.

Any words of encouragement would be great!

Confidence comes with experience. Experience comes with time. One day you won't be the new kid on the block and people will be asking you how you became so calm and confident. Until then, be gentle with yourself.

I have to agree with the other posts. It takes time. There is no quick and easy way around it. Just have to work and wait. If your co-workers have faith and confidence in you, you should have faith as well. I am sure if you were doing poorly, they would have let you or your manager know. After all, they have to work with you. This time next year you will be feeling much better.

Remember it takes 2 years to be competent in any field!!! OB is no different!! Utilize your resources... Ask TONS of questions (the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask!)... Pick the brains of the people you work with... Every day you will learn something new. Every day you'll get better!!! And if you have moderate variability or an accel, you can rule out fetal metabolic acidemia!! Lol. Embrace the nerves... They'll keep you on your toes if the uterine renters don't!! :)

I am in the same boat as you. I am a new grad on an L&D unit. I have been told I am doing great and will do great on my own when I get off orientation at the end of this month. Also that I will never be fully alone. I am terrified and lack the confidence. I'm curious to see how you are doing now...?
