why is it that breast milk can be stored in a freezer compartment (inside the refrigerator) for up to 2 weeks, but for up to 3 or 4 months in a self-contained freezer unit of a refrigerator, and up to 6 months in a separate deep freeze unit?

why the different durations? What is the difference in the freezing?

even when I freeze ordinary cow's milk, it'll sometimes become sour upon thawing (after being in the freezer for a few weeks)

Are you sure it's sour, or is it just de-homogenized (is that a word? lol)? Sometimes it will separate and look funny, but has not in fact, gone sour.

My sister once poured out about 20 oz of my hard pumped breast milk b/c it "looked funny"-it had seperated and when she thawed it she thought it was spoiled..........I almost cried..lol
