EFM Certification by NCC Exam?

Has anyone ever taken this exam after going to the Advanced Fetal Monitoring Course given by PEC? I know they offer it in conjunction with their EFM review course, but I am wondering if the advanced course is a good review for the exam.

TIA!

I am taking that course in sept....as a pre-empt to taking the exam. I hear the exam is difficult, so ANY review would be good.

Hi, Just a short note about this course and exam from PEC. In Feb , myself and eight other of my co-workers took the course and sat for the exam.

We took the course for the in-patient ob certification . The test was difficult . One hint -if you are taking the In-Patient Ob Cert. course. the book is very helpful. the one by Simpson and Cree. They make reference to the book thru out the course.

The EFM certification exam is hard. I took that one in Nov,07. I am happy to say I passed both of them.

It maakes you feel so good to have these certification s. Expensive but well worth it. May I wish you all luck. jan:nurse:

I took ( and passed) the inpatient OB certification exam in 1999 and I thought that I was taking my boards all over again. Lisa Miller, who does EFM courses thru Professional Education Center said that she felt the EFM certification exam was difficult. Now she is the one who does the review course. I am hoping it is helpful.

I found the course by Lisa Miller to be helpful, However she did not geet to the part of newborn and only touched on the post partum issues. I found if I had to do it over again, I would study more of the transitioning newborn. along with everything else.

To any one doing the exam, best of luck. jan

Well I will say I was a bit disappointed in the Adv EFM course, now that it is over. I thought it would have been more in depth than it was. Lisa's approach is different than her predecesor, Michelle Murray, whom I loved, so maybe I am biased. She does know her stuff for sure. I was just hoping for more in the course. More pathophys, deeper eval of strips, etc. The second day of the course she definitely put on her law hat, and the course took on an entirely different feel. I asked her if she felt the advanced class was a good way to prep for the exam, and she said she thought it was, along with reviewing AWHONNs publishings on EFM, since a good bulk of the test is based on their EFM book. So that's what I'll do, and I think I'll be fine. Thanks for the replies!

Lisa is MUCH different than Michelle Murray. I do like Lisa a lot, and her lawyer side is a plus in my book. My complaint is that she doesn't change her repetoire up, so many of her conferences are the same. I am hoping to see Michelle speak this year (if I can affort it)

to mommybabyrn,

Good luck with the exam, I'm sure you will do well. The course disappointed me as you stated, Michelle Murray and Lisa present different styles of teaching. Best of luck :nurse:

Anybody have any books/practice exam/online website advice for completing this exam? I already have the AWHONN 3rd & 4th Ed. Fetal Monitoring books. I am really nervous and heard that it is way harder than the NCLEX!!! Thanks!

we take this exam after 12 months of employment without a review course. we are given 2 books that are helpful, along with L&D experience. i passed it, though it did feel like boards again.
