Can you be an OB RN with an Assoc. Degree?

Hello,

I was just wondering what the chances are of becoming an OB nurse with just an Associates degree. I'm looking at programs and am thinking of doing an Assoc. and then going back later for the BSN degree if I can get tuition assistance through the hospital. I know quite a few places offer programs like that if you agree to work for them for so long.

Any thoughts or advice from anyone with this experience would be GREAT!

Thank you!:p

I've been and OB nurse for the last 6 years with an ADN license and high risk facility. However, many of my coworkers have BSN, but we make the same pay. With the nursing shortage, hospitals must take what they can get. Go for it!!

Our hospital is one that is phasing out LPNs. We have both ADN and BSN grads in our unit. However, they are changing our career ladder so to advance past a Nurse 1 you need to have a BSN. To be a Nurse 3 (our highest) you must be certified in your specialty AND have a BSN.

Yes. I have an ADN with 21+ years experience in OB.

ADN OB nurse right here! :)

Yes it's possible...I have an ADN and have been in OB nursing for 15 years...have decided to take the big LEAP and go for my Master's this year. Good luck!

I've noticed lately a lot of bigger hospitals saying "BSN preferred" but also a lot of the nursing jobs are in "higher risk" units.

Where I'm from it doesn't matter, not even when it comes to salary. All we have locally is an ADN program so they employ mostly ADN nurses.

Yep...I am living proof! Started in OB straight out of school!
