I heard that if the fetal HR is above 140 BPM that it is a girl. Has anyone ever heard this or something like it? My dtr is having her first, she is 16 wks. Baby's HR is 160 BPM. Her doctor has not done an US yet. This is my first grandchild, I'm really getting excited. By the way, I'm a Hospice RN, know 0 about OB. Thanks.

From my own experience, this has proven to be the case in all of my babies, and in all of my grandchildren so far.....as well in other family members cases who have had babies.......HOWEVER...as a nurse......I must stress to you that IT IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE....as I'm sure many will come along behind me and tell you, so don't go shopping yet, Grandma! :chuckle ;) :kiss

totally false. i would NEVER pin gender guesses on heart rates. my kids were both quite variable at times but tended to have rates in the 120s....and guess what. they are boy and girl. don't shop til you see the baby LIVE. I remember a very well-to-do expectant mom who was sure she was having a girl...Pink balloons, fru fru everywhere.... dresses, girlie-girl stuff all over, you name it....til.......baby came out. Dr. looked around her room and said:

"Gee hope you have all the receipts for this stuff cause you won't be needing it"

Yep after multiple U/S saying "girl" oops, it was really a BOY! She was truly SHOCKED and a bit UPSET! So I would wait til baby is here before going overboard at all. Unless there was amnio, you can't be 100% sure.

Wish I could tell ya that there was a 100% full proof way to tell for sure. But nothing is more reliable that checking out the goods at birth :D

Congratulations Grandma!

I was scrubbed in a c/s the other day and I had a doc tell me that if the head comes out crying then it's a girl. (The head had just come out crying and we didn't know the sex.) It was a girl! He says he's been wrong very few times with that one...

The reason that (male) doctor is never wrong is because he knows the hell females will endure once born.....and so does every female baby......only they obviously get a "heads up" on the kind of HELL that awaits them.....they probably cry the entire nine months in utero....:rotfl: Then, by the time they exit the womb, they are STILL crying...only louder...pink faced and mad at the world. Hell.....females aren't dummies ya know....we know wassup from conception! :rotfl:

I hear ya, cheerfuldoer! :chuckle

We dermine birth in a creative way. If there is a member, its a boy and gets a blue crib card. If there is labia, its a girl and gets a pink crib card. These cards say "Its a boy or Its a girl"

Unfortunately, we have had to hunt down white crib cards a few times. That say "Congratulations"

  Ah yes, the dreaded white crib card. They really need to come up with something better. Leads to way too much confusion and rude, abrupt questions.
