New grad into Practice nursing

Hi I'm about to start my final year of nursing in London and am thinking about where I would like to specialize. Practice nursing is appealing and I was wondering if one can go straight into General Practice nursing straight from finishing school and graduating.

Thanks for your time :greyalien:

I was a practice nurse and a lot will depend on the practice but most prefer someone with experience first

Specializes in Psychiatry.

I've seen job adverts, where they say that they will hire newly qualified and train them in the practice. So I guess you should be able to find something.

Thanks for the responses. I guess when I graduate I'll give applying to practice nurse jobs straight away a shot. I want to ask the same question but for applying for Outpatients nurse jobs. Do Outpatients nurse posts typically require exp? or can most new grads get the job straight out of school?

I guess a lot will depend on the hospital and the outpatient's department manager but new grads can be employed in most settings with in house training. Jobs like these tend to be in high demand due to the working hours and having weekends off

That's good to know thanks Silverdragon102.

Another useful tip would be where ever you apply try and do a informal visit. I did this with my practice nurse job and was hired because I made an impression on the visit which went in my favour despite having no experience and they was looking for someone with experience
