syringe question

i took a pharm exam tonight and most of it had to do with syringes. we had to work out the problem and shade in the syringe. there was one question that had no syringe and the final answer was 6.66..... okay i answered the question 6.7ml. now of course after the fact, i realize that i should have answered the question 7ml. tell me, should i be kicking myself? if i am understanding my syringes correctly, the lose dose syringes calibrate in tenths and the high dose in fifths? which means a 10ml syringe would have 6.6ml or 7ml but not 6.7ml? and of course i can't round it of to 6.6. this question cost me 10pts. :angryfire so, who knows the answer? :o

thanks guys!

I read your post a few times and I think I understand what you meant about the syringes (didnt want to give you incorrect information).

If the answer you got was 6.66, I too would of rounded off to 6.7ml. I would not have rounded to 7ml.

When using a syringe, you should be able to see the numbers clearly marked, and then the dashes inbetween. The dashes would correspond to .25, .50, and .75. Therefore you can give 1.25ml, or 1.5ml, or 1.75ml using that specific syringe.

When filling the syringe, I would have filled to 6.75,but not to 7 as that wasnt the correct dosage. I would want to be as exact as possible. I wouldnt want to give my patient any extra of that drug, even if it is 1/4ml. Does that make sense?

Overall I agree with you, I would round off your answer to the 6.7ml and not 7ml. Hope that helped!

Why did you loose 10 points? It was for not rounding up to 7?
