When I had a pediatric exam over oncology, most of it was over chemo and other oncology drugs along with their side effects.

For example, I would know about the biological response modifiers and how they work and why they would be prescribed (epogen, neulasta, etc).

Good luck. I'm sure you will do fine!

Best,

Diane

I will also have an exam on oncology in a few weeks. I have been focusing on the general stuff, such as side effects of chemo & radiation, nursing care for patients receiving chemo (skin care, nutrition, oral care, fatigue, pain), palliative and hospice care, neutropenia, no flowers, fruits and vegetables in patient's room (risk for infection #1 cause of death).

Infection-adequate hydration and nutrition are very important, high protein diet

Thrombocytopenia-check H&H

Chemo safety--extravasation (the escape of fluid), increases risk for infection and bleeding

Leukopenia

Anemia

Monitoring of blood cell counts frequently is essential

Good luck to you all!
