Hi there. I have to write a short paper about an ethical dilemma as it applies to nursing. Just 3-4 pages, but I have to be sure I state both sides of the issue as well as my personal opinion. The topic I originally came up with, pregnancy reduction (aborting one or more fetuses when pregnant with multiples to decrease health risks and increase chances for a successful pregnancy) was covered during the class, but it was covered in more of general healthcare way, and not in regards to nursing. Can anyone help me think of ways this applies specifically to nursing ethics, or maybe suggest another topic for me to look into? I've already done a paper on end-of-life/right-to-die issues for this class, so that's out. I am most interested in women's health/pregnancy/peds so if you have any ethical dilemmas that go with those subjects, it would make writing this paper a lot more enjoyable. Thanks a lot!

For a ethical decision for peds you could possible use the topic of parents electing to have additional children becouse their older child is sick and they need donation of bone marrow etc. to live. I have read a fictional book about this called My Sisters Keeper in that the well sister wants to stop going through all the procedures to donate these things to her sister but the parents keep insisting it is done to save her life. I am sure there have been real life situations of this also.
