IV Push Medications

I just need some help with understanding how to do this problem. I feel stupid because other students make it so simple and I am struggling like crazy trying to figure it out

The doctor orders furosemide 80 mg IVP now. What is the rate of administration for this dose?

Here is the information

Implementation:

Direct IV: Administer undiluted

Rate: Administer slowly over 1-2 minutes

Intermittment Infusion: Dilute large doses

Rate: Not to exceed 4 mg/min

If you can only infuse 4 mgs per min how many mins will it take to give the 80mgs.

I did the math and it would take 20 minutes to do so but the book says that administer slowly over 1-2 minutes and the back of the book says the answer is the rate of administration for this dose is 1-2 minutes

Hmmm. I wonder if what the book means is not to exceed 4mg/kg/min? That's my only thought!

Your answer is in your post:

1.) Direct IV = undiluted slowly over 1-2mins

2.) intermittent IV = diluted with a rate not greater than 4mg/min

You are giving IVP or direct IV so use that rate.
