Help with teaching for nursing diagnosis

Pt is a 68 year old female admitted for abdominal pain. A colonoscopy was done and she has an obstruction. She will be having surgery on Monday and is on a clear liquid diet. She complains that her abdomen hurts all the time but she is trying not to take anything for pain. My nursing diagnosis is Risk for Altered Nutritional Status: Less than body requirement. I need 5 teaching points for the patient. This is what I have so far:

1. Teach patient to control pain before eating.

2. Teach patient to eat as much of clear liquid diet as comfortable.

3. Teach patient to drink plenty of fluids to remain hydrated.

4. Teach patient to monitor I/Os.

5. Teach patient to ask for a snack if hungry.

Do these sound ok?

For a colonoscopy, and obstruction what would you monitor for first after a colonoscopy?

What would you monitor first for an obstruction?

Would altered nutrition status be the first thing you watch for after a patient had a colonoscopy and has an obstruction?

Think about your a b c's and maslows is nutrition deficit really that important right now? Maybe in the future and if your going to go with that one again think of Maslow and her own perceptions about pain and medication you can only lead the horse to the water but you can't make him drink it or something like that.
