Nursing Students Student Assist

Hello,

my name is Tammy and I am an LPN and I am enrolled in the associate degree program through MSTC. I look forward sharing info and getting tips from everyone. Nursing school is a bear, and it's nice to know that there is a place to go for some much needed support. I'm glad I found your forum!

I was looking for help with fluid and electrolyte imbalances and acid base balance and ABG's. We have an exam this week and it is the most dreaded exam this semester for many of us. I try and try but for some reason is really doesn't make a lot of sense. Any study tips? :nurse:

Thanks alot for the websites. I went to the site that has the ABG practice test and took the test, I got 100%, so I guess I am understanding it more than I thought! I also used the CD in the back of my textbook, and took the NCLEX review questions for each of the chapters related to this unit and the lowest score I got was 1 wrong out of 7 on one of the tests. I feel

ready for the exam tomorrow, but now we are in a winterstorm advisory and looking at 6-12 inches, starting tonight and going through the day and part of the night tomorrow. So wish me luck with the exam and the weather!!! Again, thankyou for your help, I really appreciate it

Hmmm. . .drive in the snow or take a test? Although I use Dayton for my screen name, I'm actually from Cleveland. I remember a bad snow storm one winter when I was in college and having a very important paper due the next day. I had to type it up (this was in the 80's before personal computers were becoming a household word) and my typewriter was at my sister-in-laws which was on the other side of the city. I kept watching the TV for school closings and the college wasn't showing up in the lists of closures, so I figured I better get my typewriter and get the paper typed up for the next day. It took an hour to drive snow covered roads with my car in first gear so that I wouldn't slide. I think I was the only idiot out on the roads, but I didn't want to chance having school open and my paper due. (Procrastination gets me into trouble all the time.) It normally would have taken me 20 minutes to retrieve my typewriter. I got the paper typed and planned on getting up very early to start my trek downtown for classes the next morning. Finally, in the morning, they announced the college was closed. The city was pretty well shut down by then and it was still snowing. You'll notice that I now live in southern California. About the worst we get here where I live is rain, sink holes and wild peacocks that will trash your gardens if they're hungry. It is overcast today and we'll probably get a little rain, but it's still better than a snow storm.

Good luck with your exam!

Hi again,

Well classes were cancelled, so no exam until next week! Maybe that's a good thing, it gives me another week to study. My instructor is really bummed about classes being cancelled though, we only have this class one day a week for 2 hours, and now she is worried that we are going to be so far behind. I did offer to take the exam tomorrow but not everyone can be there because of jobs etc. This actually would have been ideal, because then next week we would get 2hours of lecture and be back on track.

Our next unit is the respiratory system and disorders. Lots of info!!

Anyway, thanks for sharing your story, I give you a lot of credit for driving that far, I hope you recieved an A on that paper. Did they do the APA format then? (We have a 12 page article to write and it has to be in APA format.), anyway I like the idea of where you live now, I'm definitely NOT a snowbunny!!, I have only ever lived here in Wisconsin and Illinios.

Enjoy your weather (even if it rains a bit).
