In the OB rotation and trying to find an easier way to convert from lbs. and oz. to grams. So let's say I have 12 lbs. 6 oz., I convert each seperately then add them at the end.
So,
1 lb = 454 g 1 oz. = 28 g
12 lbs. = 5448 g 6 oz. = 168 g
then,
5448 g
+ 168 g
-------
5616 g
Do you have an easier way of converting this?
Thanks in advance to all the nurses and nursing students out there.

This is the way I do it:
12 lbs 6 oz (wow - that's quite a large newborn!) must be converted to decimal weight first.
12lbs + [6 oz X 1 lb/16 oz] = 12.375 lbs
Then, convert to grams (I use the conversion factor 453.59 grams per pound):
453.59 grams/ 1 lb X 12.375 lbs = 12.375 X 453.59 = 5,613.18 grams
Hope this helps :)

there are 2.2 lbs in a kg.
12.375 divided by 2.2 = 5.625kg
or multiply to convert kg to lbs.
5.625 x 2.2 = 12375

This is why they have conversion charts. Why strain a brain cell?
actually I prefer the scales with kg and lbs.
