What is the proper care for pt with DVT? I saw a patient being washed up who had DVTs and the patient had been put in trendelenburg position. I saw it and raised the HOB b/c I thought you shouldn't trend a patient or elevate their legs above the heart with a DVT because of the risk for PE. Is this not the case?

Raising the lower extremities helps reduce pressure in the veins, increases blood return to the heart, and prevents more blood from pooling in the calves. The patient is likely receiving other treatments to prevent PE such as, anticoagulants, thrombolytics, compressions stockings, ambulation, or even an IVC filter.

Why was the patient being washed up in trendelenburg?
