Am I setting the problem up wrong? Dosage Calc question...

I can not for the life of me see where I am going wrong, this is the only question I've been hung up on. The question reads

"How many mL of Levofloxacin (Levaquin) will you give in each does? Round to the nearest whole number"

Levofloxacin (25 mg/mL) at 16mg/kg/day, divided q12h.

Ok, what I have already answered for other questions is the fact that the patient weighs 92 kg (202.4lbs) , the previous question also asked how many mg of Levofloxacin will I give in 24 hours, I answered 1472 mg, the answer was correct. Now as far as how I set the equation up to answer the above question

736mg(1mL/25mg) (i did 736 because it is half of 1472 which is the dosage for the entire day) maybe this is where I am going wrong... any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

The correct answer is 9mL , I just haven't been able to arrive at it yet :/

I'm so sorry "Music in my
No, not offended at all...

Just a tongue-in-cheek reminder that some of us 'ladies' aren't :-)

Can you post the exact problem or is there a link to it? I came up with 29mL based on the numbers that you posted.

Maybe the bigger question is....since when do you give Levofloxacin Q12 hours? :wacky:

I believe the goal is to properly do the calculation correctly. Poor choice of drug...but it's the calulation they are looking for.

I know....the rest of it is for the OP who is learning.

It won't allow me to copy the Physician's order but here is the info given

"Amy Morimoto, 44 years old, has non–insulin–dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), coronary artery disease (CAD), hypertension (HTN), and asthma. Five feet three inches tall and 202.4 lb, she is morbidly obese. Amy is known to be noncompliant with her diet, diabetes, and asthma regimens. Recently an exacerbation of her asthma and community-acquired pneumonia were diagnosed."

Question 1. How many kg does Mrs. Morimotto weigh? I answered 92Kg

Question 2. How many milligrams of Amoxicillin will you give in each 24 hour period? (round answer to the nearest whole number)

The order is for " Amoxicillin (400mg/5ml) at 40mg/kg/day divided into 3 doses" I answered 3680mg

Question 3. How many mg of Amoxicillin will you give in each dose? I answered 1227mg

Question 4. How many ml of Amoxicillin will you give in each dose? I answered 15ml

Question 5. How many milligrams of Levofloxacin will you give in 24 hours? I answered 1472mg

The order is for "Levofloxacin (25mg/ml) at 16mg/kg/day divided q12h"

Question 6. How many milliliters of Levofloxacin will you give in each dose? This is where I'm stuck... I keep getting 29mL, but this is not the answer the module comes up with...

Excuse any typos, I had to type this out because it wouldn't allow me to copy and paste....

Maybe it doesn't want you to round the answer? ...Maybe it wants 29.4 mL?

What is the answer the module comes up with??

They said the answer is 9mL and it said to round to the nearest whole number.....

Per the original posts, the sought-after answer is 9 mL... clearly and unmistakeably a typo.
