Please help me with the below problem.

79. What is the adjusted body weight for a male weighing 621 lb and 5'11” tall?

Males: IBW = 50 kg + 2.3 kg for each inch over 5 feet.

50+ [2.3 × (71 in. – 60 in.)] = 75.3 kg

ABW

Estimated adjusted body weight (kg)

If the actual body weight is greater than 30% of the calculated IBW, calculate the adjusted body weight (ABW):

ABW = IBW + 0.4(actual weight - IBW)

· IBW (75.3 kg) + 0.4 × (actual body weight [282.27 kg] – IBW [75.3 kg]) = 87.4 kg

I get 158.1. What am I doing wrong?

It looks as though these are coming directly out of a textbook or other resource. Please be aware of copyright issues when publicizing them here on AN.

That being said, what part of the problem is giving you issues? Are you completing the individual math steps in the correct order? Correct order for math problem steps: Order of Operations - PEMDAS

It may help to write out each step as it is completed, such as:

50kg + [2.3 x (71-60)]

50kg + (2.3 x 11)

50kg + 25.3

and so on

Although, using the formulas you've provided I am also coming up with the same answer.

Here is another one that I can't see to figure out while it is simple.

There are several formulas. I was using the Devine formula, which worked for a similar question, which I pasted below. All possible formulas are below as well. These do not work out to the given answer. Please help - thanks

Females: IBW = 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg for each inch over 5 feet.

45.5+ [2.3 × (__ in. – 60 in.)] = 54.7 kg

24. Find the ideal body weight for a man who is 6 feet 3 inches.

50 + [2.3 × (75 in. – 60 in.)] = 84.5 kg devines

106 pounds (lb) for first 5′ + 6 lb for each inch over 5′

106 + 6 x 15 = 196 lb divided by 2.2 = 89.09

52 kg + 1.9 kg for each inch over 5 feet(robinson)\

52 + 1.9 x 15 = 80.5

48 kg + 2.7 kg for each inch over 5 feet )\hamwi

48 + 2.7 *15 = 88.5

Doesn't your textbook have an answer key? Because these sure look like you're just running down the page.

If they are from your faculty, it doesn't matter.

You had to take algebra and chemistry, right? These ought to have given you the tools you need to solve these kinds of problems-- that's why they're preREQUISITES.
