How to store stethoscope?

I got a case from amazon for my brand new (and expensive) Littmann Cardiology 4 stethoscope. When in the case, it appears to be tightly bent at the neck where the two tubes come together.

could that damage the product over time?

I suppose it could damage things over time. I have three Littman stethoscopes. One is the original "nurse model" that I was given in 1980 or so. The main tube is majorly warped from wearing it around my neck for 20 years, but it works just fine. One is the Cardiology scope I bought when I went to CCU . . . that scope is just a bit warped. I used it for a dozen years or so until I foolishly let my husband borrow it just for a shift because he'd lost his. (Not his first loss.) My scope walked away in that one shift . . . and I made him buy me another Cardiology scope while I used the original. Many moons later, I spotted my first Cardiology scope around the neck of a resident who swore up and down it was his. (Nice job, Bozo -- it has the name "Ruby Vee" engraved right on the tubing. Is your name Ruby Vee?") The third scope -- which I used for about eight years is in perfect condition. All three suffered from benign neglect. I wear them around my neck, and then just shove them into my bag any which way. As for the one that went AWOL -- I don't know how that one was treated or mistreated, but I suspect it lived in the resident's backpack when he wasn't on duty. Littmans are pretty durable. I wouldn't worry.

Well, RV, when you identified your wayward scope did the resident return it or did he demand a DNA test for further proof?
