Hi,

So I am about to start nursing school and it is required that I wear all white shoes. (It doesn't say if the logo matters or not, so I'm guessing not) I've read a lot of other posts about it and I still can't decide what shoes I want. I have small feet (size 5) with high arches. My feet are always hurting. So far I've wanted to try on a pair of nursemates but I haven't had the chance.

No crocs allowed!

What shoes do you wear? What would you reccomend? Was the shoe worth the cost?

I'd talk to the school asap. Ours is okay if it just a small logo. However, some do not allow any mesh on the shoes anymore. I think some schools are moving away from enforcing this like the school I go to doesn't care and the hospital I work for has no specific dress code when it comes to shoes (I wear gray and teal sketchers at work).

I was always told that needles could go through the mesh into your foot but I don't know if that is the truth or not. I don't feel like dropping needles on my shoe to test it.

Specializes in OR.

I suggest you get to your nearest scrub shop and try on the shoes they offer. I'm starting nursing school in the fall, and that's what I did. I was fascinated by the Danskos, but they didn't have all white in my size. Right now, I'm thinking about buying those as a graduation reward. For now, I got the Nurse Mates Dove shoes. I liked the way they felt in the store, and the price was right.

If you're unsure about whether a shoe would be acceptable to your school, ask! I know I emailed a photo to my program coordinator (because I was unsure about the color logo on the side) and a friend wasn't sure if a particular shoe would be considered a clog, which is unacceptable in our program. Both times we received responses quickly, and we both felt better about the guesswork being removed.
