Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

Question for GradRN2010 or PRnurse: Has anyone in your graduating class or a preceding class been accepted into a graduate program elsewhere? I've been interested in Interamericana since I first visited San Juan in 2006 but I'm curious to know how a transcript from there would be received when applying to an MSN program in the states. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated as I hope to hand deliver my materials when I visit San Juan again in November.

Mike and ChanelCinq,

I've also seen a yoga class on Condado Beach, unfortunately I can't remember the name of the studio but I don't believe it's far from Bebos Cafe on Calle Loiza. I was there last July if that helps.

For banks, we have Doral, WesternBank, First Bank and Banco Popular. I'm sure there are a few others, but those are our biggest banks down here. Banco Popular is probably the most widely used bank here on the island, so that is your best bet. They have a lot of branches in the states, depending on where you live. I was in Orlando, FL and we had a ton of BPPR branches because of the large Puerto Rican population there. We have an account with them and they're a very good bank IMO

As far as cell phone companies, we have AT&T (they're decent I guess, but I have a few friends who hate them), Sprint (they're good - this is who we use), T-Mobile, Claro, Open, Boost Mobile and I'm sure I'm missing a few. I think T-Mobile has all you can talk, text and surf for $39.99 right now. I believe AT&T has something similar for around $60.

I don't know of any cheap places to stay in Rio Piedras, sorry about that!

As far as the uniforms, we were up there the other day and saw a lot of nursing students with teal scrubs on, but I'm not sure if that is the uniform or not. Maybe GradRN2010 can chime in about that one.

Oh, and Chanel, they are having an orientation on June 11th at 10 a.m., so I would try and get here before then. I don't think it's absolutely mandatory, but it would probably be a good thing to be able to go. Congrats on getting in!

As far as the summers go, I believe they do the general education classes only, no nursing. That is for the regular trimester program. I'm not sure about those who are on the advanced track.

Hi,

Uniforms for males are white. For females, they should be bought dowm here ase they are locally made. The teal scrubs are for the medical technologists.

Awww man, I was afraid that the teal scrubs weren't for us! I bet we have to wear those horrid looking polyester white tops and skirts with white pantyhose and the little boat hat, don't we? Ohhh please say we don't! Those things are so tacky looking. I just want to wear some comfy scrubs.

June 11th ahh man!. I just bought my ticket last night and I leave on the 8th. I thought the orientation was in July. Oh well, if there is any good info please post it. Thanks D-M...

Oh no! You're coming here to PR and then leaving for home on June 8th? That stinks  I'm so sorry, I should have told you guys about the orientation! Things have been so crazy here that I didn't even think about it. Plus I was totally bummed that my hubby is going to get to go to the advanced track and I'm not. Oh well. I told him that when he graduates in two years, he is SO getting me a nice house and taking care of me while I finish my last year of school LOL I'm glad that he'll be getting some good experience too before we go back to the states. His cousin is a big wig at a hospital in Caguas, so hopefully she'll put a good word in for him so he can get a job quick.

I'll let you guys know what goes on in the orientation if you can't make it.

For banks, ...

Thanks designer-mommy you have a wealth of useful information, as usual.

... they are having an orientation on June 11th at 10 a.m...

This is soooo perfect. I asked my boss for time off that week. I am flying out the 7th on a red eye and arriving on the 8th. I will be there until the 16th.

I will definitely be there for the orientation. I asume you will too. We should go for coffee afterwards.

congrats!

Did u send your transcripts return receipt? how long did it take to get accepted?

I saw on line that there is a bikram studio in PR.

Yes I sent my transcripts return receipt but it didn't seem to help. It took 3 months before I received my acceptance letter from the time I applied.

Thanks, Bikram is not my thing.

I would be interested to know this as well. However I would hope it wouldn't matter.

I think the studio you are referencing is It's Yoga in the Ocean Park area of San Juan. It's Yoga is an ashtanga based system started by Larry Schultz in San Francisco. It takes all the fun poses from the ashtanga primary and secondary series and combines them. However, like Bikram and Ashtanga there is a set of poses that has to be done in a specific order. I am into yoga that has way less rules and is a lot more free flow. The It's Yoga Rocket series is super popular though.

Here is a list of yoga studios in Puerto Rico:

San Juan Yoga - Yoga in San Juan

The very last one on that list is a mile from the school and offers a ton of different styles.

Oh please say it ain't so!

That sucks. Have you looked into changing it? Sometimes it is just a 100 USD change fee. Who are you flying on? I know a lot of people in the airline world.

Before I look into changing my ticket I have a quick questions, is the orientation on the 10th for students who have already been accepted or can any one go? I am taking a red eye too on Delta. Where are you staying? I got a deal through Costco to stay at a resort for cheap. One last question, how does the accelerated program work? Every schedule I see it looks like you will be there for 2-2.5 years whether you have took classes or not. At least that is what I get from the BSN brochure and the class schedule for the Metro campus. Hmm?
