UTICA College Reviews

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi, I am interested in finding more information about this program. I am seriously considering applying for my BSN here because they take most of my credits, and its completely online. Does anyone have feedback that they could share with me? Is tehre anyone in the program or a gradute that is willing to share their experience, or offer tips? How manageable is the class while working full time and having family?

Thank you any and all that have input to offer.

I am currently enrolled in this program. The whole thing is total garbage and a waste of your money. Everything is a double standard, the faculty say you can't have spelling errors, and have to have correct APA and all this ******** on papers and they can't even make a powerpoint that doesn't have a spelling error on each page with the woman reading it opening a soda can, having a baby scream, or dog barking in the background. The questions on the exams are poorly written and misspelled as well, so it is very distracting in exams to constantly be wondering what word is supposed to go there. Also the exams have clearly never been reviewed by anyone intelligent as you could probably contest half the questions and get them thrown out. Every exam feels like a fight, because you have to scrape to get the points you want back and complain to get anything accomplished with these people. But don't worry, those cheating rumors, yeah you can cheat all you want. I know this because the proctor sits in front of the room texting and playing on the internet and two girls blatantly cheat on just about every exam. And they happen to be black. And no that is not a biased opinion, it is fact, because I have seen it with my own two eyes. It has been brought to the attention of the staff from multiple members of that cohort and NOTHING has been done. The whole program is totally unorganized, and the faculty that was running it, and the new faculty, are rude and disrespectful. The faculty that teaches on campus plays favorites, and its blatantly obvious, and most of them clearly have no teaching experience or ability to teach others, although some (Crystal) are good at explaining things without getting off topic 29834239 times. Truly the whole program feels like hazing. I'm passing the program just fine, just can't wait to never deal with any (most) of these people ever again! They just add to the stress of the program. And all these people who study 24 hours a day, I'm not sure what they're doing, but I've been able to maintain almost a full time job and get it all done and maintain a life just fine, and not be totally stressed out at all.

I know this question is a couple of years old, but I'm in the online RN-BSN program now. I applied last summer (2013) and was accepted starting January 2014. I took the summer off and am currently taking my 3rd and 4th classes. In case anyone is still looking at Utica's online program, I have been happy with it so far.

CLM :-)

Not faculty, just a student. My experience has been a positive one because I approach concerns with faculty or the program in a productive way. For those of you who believe that nothing is being done to take your feedback, staff has been conducting focus group meetings to hear from mature, level-headed, and respectful adults and they have taken our feedback and put it into action. This program is not without faults. In fact it is full of them, but as you will experience in life even outside of nursing school, there are always problems in the workplace, and if you act disrespectfully and come at your superiors with guns blazing, it will get you nowhere. Finally, the faculty on site are incredible, and they each bring valuable knowledge and experience to the table. Respect them, and learn from them, because they will be the ones to stick their necks out for you when it counts.

I completely agree! :-)

Just don't come here. As a student that was very excited and happy to be at Utica it took a lot to turn me off. Staff you deal with is at best unresponsive. Weeks and months will go by before you get any response. My record is waiting 25 days for a response and it only happened after I contacted the school dean twice. Sometime you just get ignored and never get an answer. It is extremely frustrating to go through an online program without any response from teachers or administration. The scariest part of the whole thing is that the school also falls short in the area of clinical. During lab time you will use broken or missing equipment and be left alone with you peers to practice for most of the time. In addition you lab will often be very short on supplies forcing extremely large groups to share or extended wait times to practice.

I have learned a valuable lesson at Utica, what it feels like to be ignored and seemingly sabotaged by the people who should be supporting and helping you. I have learned at Utica how to succeed in a truly adverse situation. So before you sign up for this ask your self, is that what you want you learning environment to consist of?

Honestly St. Joe's college of nursing provides a far more holistic education for a similar price.

I'm at this school right now. With it being so new and the onsite staff being so poor I wouldn't recommend this for anyone. Our clinical woman is useless she's only concerned with us passing out meal trays and making her look good in front of her co-workers. The online classes no one returns an email or answers any questions. The director of clinical forgets 90% of anything she told you, or if you ask her a question she will forget what you asked her the second she turns around so when the deadline comes she will hunt you down like you didnt even talk to her. The director of the program will only push you aside if you have any issues. 1/3rd of the class ahead of me flunked out and are retaking a class and didnt move on with their cohort. The exams are impossible to study for we have to read 20 chapters in one book in 3 weeks and 15 in another in 3 weeks and the list goes on from there. save your money go to a cc if i didnt have government money i wouldnt stay but its free for me and i pass barely. they even lowered the incoming class requirments to only 60 credits so they could fill seats. no one has taken the nclex from this campus so anything they tell you about it is from the campus in new york they and they are just lying right to your face. stay away from this place unless youre desperate to get into something and hope you dont fail out because i dont know this place is really horrible.

This is the accelerated program in Utica?

I was wondering how difficult is it to take all these courses online. I was accepted for fall '15 but it seems like we are just having all these online courses thrown at us and have to teach ourselves. I am african american as well so the way they targeted you is making me concerned about going there as well.

Do you feel that this program gave enough support since it is online?? Or did you find yourself having to teach yourself everything as far as online courses. Also I was wondering the format of online lectures are they video recordings or just reading on a screen?

Were you able to make it through the program? And if so how was job placement? Did employers seem hesitant since it was a partial online degree?

You definitely teach yourself. Good luck.

I was accepted for Spring 2016 and I was wondering if you decided to go? If you did how is it going?
