UTICA College Reviews

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hi, I am interested in finding more information about this program. I am seriously considering applying for my BSN here because they take most of my credits, and its completely online. Does anyone have feedback that they could share with me? Is tehre anyone in the program or a gradute that is willing to share their experience, or offer tips? How manageable is the class while working full time and having family?

Thank you any and all that have input to offer.

Are you going to go to Utica? I'm still debating about the school since I've read more negative than positive reviews about the school.

As of right now I will go if I decide not to go to any of the other schools. I have to take the TEAS V exam for one of them and depending on how that goes it will determine whether I'm going to the other school or Utica. But Utica is a last resort right now for me.

@YankeeEl I was wondering if you decided for or against Utica? I too was accepted and am in the process of deciding if it's the right school or not. Hope wherever you end up you're happy with it!

In the end I decided to go with a different school but when I went to visit the other school I didn't love it either. We decided not to move to NY and are going to go wherever my fiance, who just graduated, gets a job. So I'll be looking for new schools wherever we move which might be Florida so I might be looking back into them.

Oh darn I'm sorry =/ but good luck with whatever you decide! I'm actually looking into the Utica campus in St. Petersburg Florida, so I'm just hoping it works out.

Good luck with whichever program you end up with!

You will have to let me know how it goes! Good luck!

I was just accepted in the program for summer 16 and I was wondering if anybody knew about how to go about housing and their clinical placement. Which hospitals are they affiliated with?

Are you going to New York or Florida?

I found housing in Tampa not too far from the st Petersburg campus

I'm going to Syracuse

I am in this program right now in flordia and it's the worst school I have ever been to. To start off with they make you sign something saying you are responsible for teaching your fellow classmates and they mean it. There's to many of us and like 2 lab instructors. Neither of them knows anything and tells you 100 different ways to do the same thing. There's no consistency in grading for lab, since it's subjective based on the professors views it really seems like it's based on if they like you or not. The staff on campus has nothing to do with planning the material we are learning. They do not make the exams, they do not teach anything use full, they seem to be talking heads to make you feel better about going to campus nothing else. To make this clear, anything that comes out of any of their mouths will not be on an exam. This has been a problem many times. If you ask for clarification about material you are unclear on and answer the question on an exam based off of what the on campus staff has told you 99% of the time it is wrong and there's nothing they will do about it. The online classes are "taught" by adjunct staff that is never on campus, never answers emails, does not make up any of the content, does not make up the exams, will not be able to answer any question you have, answer to no one at the school and basically do whatever they want with your grade. No matter what anyone says NO ONE WILL HELP YOU AND no one has any say in anything that goes on at that school. Most of my clinical experiences have been horrible, they are taught by nurses that never worked as a professional nurse they basically just came out of school and went into teaching. They in no way understand how a proper nurse does their job. They belittle you in front of patients and hospital staff and never have anything useful to add. Clinical instructors are not really part of the school so they do not understand where the students are with learning, so most of the time they expect you to know something you haven't studied in class, if you don't they write in your review that you did poorly in clinical and this is reflected in your grade. As for the office staff my adviser has done nothing to help matters and no one else has returned any emails or phone calls. This has been the worst experience of my life and I wish I never came here and went into debt for this so called education. Please stay away if you value your money, education and sanity.

I am current student in the FL program & do not recommend working full time. I worked full time my first semester & barely got through & almost lost my sanity. It is by no means an easy program as it is an accelerated program but it is do-able if you have the time to commit. I had to go part-time & I highly recommend doing so if you really want to learn the material. Lectures are online, labs meet 1-2 times a week depending on which semester you are in, the main nursing classes have proctored exams you go in & take, clinicals are on Saturday & Sunday. Expect to have no social life, I do not have a family so I am not sure about that. But there are people in the program that do & seem to be making it work just fine. Just keep in mind, there will always be professors & teachers that just plain suck in college, it's how you manage working with them & doing what you have to do to pass the class. The Florida program seems disorganized/last minute at times but I believe it has potential. If you are committed to becoming a nurse, this is definitely one of the faster programs that gets it done for you. Good luck!
