Whew, I am finally almost done, just got to defeat this CPNE. Can't believe I have made it this far. I will apply next week when my finances allow me to do so :)

For some reason, for the life of me, I cannot figure out the '20 minute check' thing. I have an appointment with a staff member for next Monday, and this is the first thing I want clarified. I understand that within the 'critical elements' some of them are timed, but I feel like this '20 minute check' thing has evolved from something other than the study guide. Hopefully I can get it figured out talking directly to the source because things are getting a little jumbly! I did get a good response on the EPN, but I want to make sure I've got everything covered and know where the heck this term came from!

They're just the things that need to be done within the first 20 minutes of entering the room. They're the timed critical elements in the areas of care, like with Fluid Management. These are the ones that, somewhere in the critical elements, you'll see the phrase "Within 20 minutes after beginning the Implementation Phase" (i.e., entering the patient's room).

Thanks, Lunah! That's what I had thought, but all these elaborate mnemonics have gotten me a little mixed up!!

Hey! Lol didn't mean to be confusing with the elaborate nmeonics! Lol lol I made the 20 min checks really difficult at first! Until another student told me to learn(want I be glad I put on two dry socks fast) yea lol elaborate is was I thought too(at first) then after reading the CE section in the study guide many many times...the first letter of each word of that sentence made my 20 min check tie together! But we all learn differntly! The most important part is that we get it& it sinks in. Lol that sentence to me has been the best thing since ice tea!(Wash hands-id self-band checkx3-gloves on-iv site check-pintch skin-off gloves-tubing check-drip rate-soloution-fluids) lol of course simple step like(gloves on & off) are not considered 20 min check! But.....just in case I have a brain freeze or a mental shut down from my nerves...I want forget to put gloves on before I check the iv site! Ha ha sorry for sharing! I didn't mean for any confusion! Lol it really helped me! The EC board is full of different ways of remebering differnt things. I've read a lot of journals that have helped me tie things together. Tho I have a few loose ends(labs..care plans!) Ha slowly but surely it will all work together! Networking with others and learning from others is always an asset when aplied with our own knowledge! Thanks c ya!

I know what you mean about collecting too many of them, too. I did the same thing -- I had mnemonics from Lynn's workshop, but those were phrases, which didn't work for me. I ended up using the ones from Tina's workshop (the Tina in PA) -- they were one word mnemonics, which worked well for me. Ivan made his own, which also works better for some people -- his document is here, if you want to read it: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/cpne-notes-ec-308371.html

Then again, there are people who just memorize the areas of care and critical elements without mnemonics. Everyone is a little different. :)
