I am currently enrolled in Excelsiors ASN. I need a English 3 credit, Sociology, A&P, "science related to nursing, & Micro. Should I complete these with Excelsior? I'm so confused by the whole CLEP thing and their online "courses" which seem quite pricey. I have tried to research but have ended up more confused!

Clep Sociology; Micro their exam; A&P with straighterline the version with no lab only if you think you can get through them both in one month, if not you will probably be able to do it cheaper via the excelsior exam; and English I would probably say straighterline or a community college near you.

Other online community colleges that work well (though i'm not all in the know regarding the prices) Rio Salado or Edukan.

The cheapest option will depend on where you are located because certain colleges are cheaper for in state students. Their online courses are a bit expensive. Cleps are relatively cheap and can be completed at local schools for usually under 100$ They are exams similar to excelsior and you will study on your own. Materials can be found online or at borders, barnes & noble, etc.

CLEP Sociology--easy, minimal prep, $77.

CLEP English or UExcel English--I heard the UExcel English is a little easier, that is $85.

If you take A&P through Excelsior, that's 6 credits, and Micro is 3 credits. You only need 4 for A&P and 2 for Micro, so your 2 of sciences supportive of nursing would be taken care of in overlap. :-)

Be sure to get approval from EC before you try to take a CLEP for credit. I took the Introductory Sociology CLEP for credit with EC, as well as the Human Growth and Development CLEP (they accepted it in place of Lifespan Dev. Psych).
