Underage Possession of Alcohol

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hey! I just finished my first semester of nursing at JMU (BSN) with a 3.7. I worked extremely hard. To celebrate the end of a hard semester me and some friends decided to drink a couple beers. Long story short I was charged with underage possession of alcohol. Great. I am so incredible mad at myself. This was my first offense. My court date is on Feb 10 (the day before my 21st birthday...oh the irony) so I don't know what I will be convicted of, but I was wondering if this could hurt my chances of getting my license, finding a job, or staying in the nursing program. Thanks for reading this!

Get an atty. They can usually get the charges altered.... ie: one of my kids was arrested for driving on a suspended license....lawyer got it changed to driving on an invalid license (actually a huge difference)! Also, DD was pulled over at 19...blew a .10! She should have been given a DUI, suspended license until 21...etc. Hired a lawyer....the only thing that stuck was "open container in vehicle" which was non-adjudicated. No points. She paid a fine....no DUI...no suspension. WELL worth the $1500.

Yikes! $1500 on top of books and tuition? I just don't have that money. I called the court and it looks like the worst case scenario would be a deferred disposition meaning that after I show up to court they will put me on probation and VASAP classes and I will have community service. After the year of probation is up they dismiss the underage possession. It will still show up on background checks though.

So my question: How bad does a dismissed underage possession of alcohol charge look to the Board of Nursing? Will they still give me a license?
