My story.

Nurses Criminal

Published

As many of you, throughout the process of applying nursing school, completing it, finding a job, and getting my license I was constantly worried about how my background would affect my goals. I have a class A and class C misdemeanor (Not violence or drug related) on my record from 7 years ago when I was young and barely an adult. To make a long story short, I completed my BSN, landed a job, and now have my license with no problems other than a bunch of stress :uhoh3: Just be honest, don't lie, and do the best you can do. I honestly believe most people can look past something on your record through honest explanation and elapsed time.

thank you for sharing your story! if you don't mind sharing more.. how did you get into nursing school with a record? i am just wondering if the school is willing to look past something that happened a long time ago, isn't it still up to all of the clinical sites you will have clinicals at? i am less worried about eventually getting a license, but more worried about being allowed to attend clinicals and eventually finding a place to hire me. i also have something on my record from when i was a juvenile, and haven't been in trouble since.

Luckily, during the application process to school, they only asked for felonies, which I do not have. Now, a background check was required for clinicals. So, the misdemeanor came up. I basically had to go to a manager at the clinical site and explain it before starting the clinical. I had absolutely no problem. The manager could have really cared less. As long as it is not something super major, I really do believe most people can look past stupid mistakes from the past.
