Domestic issue, can I still be a RN?

Nurses Criminal

Hi,

A very long story short. I was working with a girl whose boyfriend use to abuse her, I took her in because she wanted to get away from him so I allowed her to stay in a spare room in my apartment with the one exception (besides chipping in on rent) was that he was not allowed to come come over.

Well, he started coming over causing a scene and she wanted to be with him again (at my place) so I told her she had to leave. I went shopping came home and the locks on MY apartment were changed and they were in there together.

I called a locksmith and got in, she came home with him and basically said he was staying and she wouldn't leave. Okay, I DID threaten her but I never touched her, she called the cops (the nerve right) and he basically said its a civil issue and left, I started packing to go spend the night somewhere else while I figured it out and mid packing I guess she called the cops again because another one showed up and started to arrest me. No questions asked nothing, I wasnt even sure why I was arrested, I thought maybe because I threatened her. Anyway, once we got down to booking he asked me if I wanted to say something, being that I was already arrested I said no and asked for a lawyer.

Come to find out through my lawyer she said that I scratched her arm, and they had a picture which was a little tiny scratch that I didnt even do. So I spent the night in jail and when I got out, ALL of my stuff was gone. Clothes, furniture, baby pics, everything. While trying to figure out what to do, what to wear etc, I took the deferred adjudication cop out and had to go to anger mngment classes, community service and pay the lawyer 5K. Oh btw she got me fired by telling our job I threaten her. I really think this was a case of racism since I am black and she wasn't so no one even asked my side.

So I took her to small claims court and got a 5K judgement (that was all they could do) which of course I never say to help me start over but this is still on my record.

So I am wondering will this prevent me from becoming a nurse since this is technically a domestic issue. I heard that I cant get it expunged in Texas. I have been able to work in various places, but I hear the BON is pretty hardcore.

Any advice would be helpful. :)

Only your BON can answer this question. You need to contact them and ask. We cannot answer this question.

Good luck.
