Criminal background check in PA for BON? I have expunged disorderly conduct charge..

Nurses Criminal

Published

Hello,

I live in Pennsylvania and I am currently attending my first year of nursing school. I was charged with disorderly conduct back in 2010 within the county court system. I had it expunged about 2 months ago after successfully proving in court that I was not guilty of the charge. Here is my question. I followed a link from this website to a pdf document that listed all the states' policies regarding criminal background checks prior to Nursing licensure. This is what it says for Pennsylvania: "Criminal background checks are only required when an applicant reports criminal history, in response to a question on the application." Will the disorderly conduct charge come up even though it has been expunged? I am going to say No to the question since it has been expunged, but isn't it stupid to think that they would believe what applicants say to that question? Let's say an applicant has a criminal record but still answers No to the question. How are they able to verify this? If an applicant answers No to the question, do they do some type of preliminary background check to verify the validity of the answer before launching a full scale background check? Also, can someone please verify that the pdf is uptodate. Because Pennsylvania's rules about criminal background checks for nursing licensure may change over time.

Thanks

What they have on the site is the most up to date form. If the charge was expunged it should not show on your background check. A friend of mine was in the same situation, he had a family member that was an officer verify and nothing showed up. You can always call the BON to verify.
